Basic facts on cholesterol

A small amount of cholesterol is necessary for your physical wellbeing but excess can be harmful. Your body produces the cholesterol it needs through your liver. Many foods are rich in cholesterol, such as meat, fatty cheese, butter and eggs.

LDL cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein transfers cholesterol from your liver to your tissues but the higher the amount of cholesterol in your blood, the bigger the probability that cholesterol gets deposited in the artery walls.
