Most (about 80%) of the cholesterol in our body is made by our liver.
However, some also comes from the foods we eat. Cholesterol is naturally found in some animal foods such as eggs, shellfish, meat and dairy products, but they don’t make a big difference to our blood cholesterol levels.
It’s much more important for us to cut down on foods that are high in saturated fats – such as fatty meat and processed meat like sausages, butter, lard, full fat dairy products like cream and cheese, coconut oil, milk and white chocolate, cakes, biscuits and puddings.
By cutting down on the animal foods that contain saturated fats, you’ll automatically be keeping the cholesterol in your diet in check too. It’s a win-win situation!
